KISS win Rajat Memorial inter-school hockey title

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) emerged champions in the 5th Rajat Memorial Inter-School Hockey Tournament, edging out Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in the all-Bhubaneswar final, via sudden death shoot out at Odisha Police High School here today.

The nail-biting final went to penalty shoot out after play in the regulation time ended in 4-4 draw. But the first five penalty shoot outs failed to break the stalemate. Eventually, KISS won the match in sudden death. In the regulation time, Mahendra Majhi scored two goals in the first half for KISS, while his teammate Birendra Jojo and Binod Lakra sounded the board once each in the second half. For KIIT, Bikash Kerketa and Sikendra Kerketta scored once each in the first half and Dugnu Oram strick twice in the second half.

Gyanendra (KISS) and Suman Toppo (KIIT) pocketed the individual prizes as best goalkeeper and best defender respectively. Sashibhusan of Odapada High School was adjudged best forward as well as player of the tournament.

Ex MP Anadi Sahoo and Hockey Odisha secretary Pratap Satapathy handed over the trophy and prizes in the presence of host Poonam Youth Welfare Organization president Santosh Sahoo.
